Bajaj Institute of Technology, Wardha, (BIT), achieved a remarkable feat by having 7 of its Teams, consisting of around 40 students, qualifying for the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2020 Competition and one of its Teams being the National Winner in an event.
Smart India Hackathon is the most prestigious event of its kind in the country, and the largest in the world, and is organized by the MHRD and AICTE.
Within 3 years of starting achieving the first position nationally in terms of number of teams qualifying (7 in software edition and 2 in hardware edition) and then winning an event is really a proud moment not only for BIT but also for the entire region.
‘Team Algorithmic’ of BIT secured the first position and a prize of Rs 1 Lac for a problem statement provided by the Government of Sikkim. The task was to develop a Management Information System for Rural Development Housing Scheme like Garib Awas Yojana along with a GIS application. The team delivered a solution by developing a smart mobile application and website for the same covering all stakeholders, from the Central Ministry to Grampanchayat. Members of the winning team were Ruchika Chambhare (Team Leader), Ganesh Marathe, Jyoti Jauhari, Anany Dubey, Pradeepkumar Mahur, Manasi Kothekar. The team was mentored by Prof. Sandesh Jain, faculty from Computer Engineering department.
The Hackathon was held online from 1st to 4th August, 2020. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Grand Finale on 1st August 2020. 1126 domain experts and evaluators from Ministries, Institutes and the Industry mentored and evaluated the 1080 teams participating in the Grand Finale.
Other Teams from BIT, Wardha, who were selected for Grand Finale solved problem statements given by the Airports Authority of India, CISCO DEVNET, Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Railways, National Jute Board, Ministry of Textiles, Yamaha Motor Solution India Pvt Ltd. and were appreciated by the juries because of the logical, creative solutions the students provided. Some of them have shown an interest in incorporating the solutions provided by BIT students for their organization.
Each team was mentored by a faculty; Dr. Sagar Badhiye, Prof. Abhishek Kinhekar, Prof. Amit Manakshe, Prof. Amreen Khan, Prof. Amol Jumde, Prof. Urvashi Pote. They and Head of the dept. Prof. Pravin Kulkarni took pains in guiding and facilitating the students. Principal Dr. Narendra Kanhe and Chairman of Shiksha Mandal, Shri Sanjay Bhargava constantly encouraged the students and faculty mentors and have congratulated them on this grand achievement.
When BIT was started it was envisaged that it would make a mark at the national level within 10 years. This target has begun to be met. On hearing of this milestone Shri Rahul Bajaj said, “Thanks” and Shri Rajiv Bajaj said, “Zabardast”.
